Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 17, 2026
Open Compensation (opencompensation.org) is a free, non-commercial transparency tool that aggregates publicly disclosed Canadian public sector salary data. This privacy policy explains what data we display, how we handle visitor information, and your rights.
1. What Data We Display
Open Compensation aggregates and displays public sector salary data that is already publicly available through government disclosure programs. This includes:
• Ontario: Public Sector Salary Disclosure (Sunshine List) — published annually by the Ontario government for employees earning $100,000+ in salary.
• British Columbia: Public Sector Executive Compensation — published by the BC government.
• Manitoba: Public Sector Compensation Disclosure — published by the Manitoba government.
• Alberta: Public Sector Body Compensation Disclosure — published by the Alberta government.
All data displayed on this site is sourced from official government publications and is already part of the public record.
2. Legal Basis for Data Display
The compensation data displayed on Open Compensation is collected and published by Canadian federal and provincial governments under their respective disclosure legislation:
• Ontario's Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996
• British Columbia's Public Sector Employers Council reporting requirements
• Manitoba's Public Sector Compensation Disclosure Act
• Alberta's Public Sector Compensation Transparency Act
As this information is part of the public record, its display and aggregation is lawful and consistent with the purposes for which it was originally disclosed — promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

When you visit this site, we collect minimal data:
• No account registration is required to use this site.
• No personal data is collected from visitors beyond standard web analytics.
• Cookies: We use only essential cookies for site functionality (such as dark mode preference and bookmarked records). We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

4. Data Correction & Removal Requests
If you are a public sector employee whose data appears on this site and you believe there is an error in the data displayed, you may request a correction by contacting us at privacy@opencompensation.org.
Please note:
• The data we display comes from official government sources. If the original source contains an error, we encourage you to contact the publishing government body directly to correct the source data.
• We will update our records to reflect corrections made at the source.
• Because this data is part of the public record and published under legislative authority, we are generally unable to remove records that are accurately reproduced from government disclosures.

5. PIPEDA Compliance
Open Compensation is committed to complying with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
The salary data displayed on this site is publicly available information that was collected and disclosed by government bodies for the purpose of public accountability. Under PIPEDA, publicly available information as prescribed by regulation may be collected, used, and disclosed without consent.
